Variant 1 - Edmond Favier, “délégué regional de la Section d’Enquête et de Contrôle du CGQJ à Marseille”, introduced Lefranc to Fernand Musso, Préfet de la Corrèze.   Also present at this meeting was Georges Perrier, “inspecteur principal des [RG] de Marseille”. Lefranc delivered a letter of introduction to Musso. He briefed Musso of his mission for Darquier de Pellepoix to locate the Schloss collection as “administrateur provisoire” of the collection per the CGQJ. Darquier de Pellepoix had written to Musso from Vichy urging him to ensure the safe transfer of the paintings to Paris.
The three told Musso they learned of the existence of the collection from an employee [ouvrier d’entreprise] at a trucking firm who had brought the paintings to the Corrèze and who was currently working for the German authorities. The préfet ordered Inspector Cloup [RG de la Corrèze] to initiate the raid on the banque Jordaan.
