US military raid on Merkers mine

Bundles of currency, confiscated art, and other valuables from the Reichsbank were uncovered by U.S. troops with the 90th Division, U.S. Third Army in the Merkers salt mine. In addition, the mine also contained large quantity of gold fillings extracted from Holocaust victims prior to their murder and bank reserves plundered from Nazi-occupied European nations.
