Schaeffer Galleries

The Schaeffer Galleries, owned and directed by Hanns Schaeffer [d. 1967], specialized in Old Masters paintings and drawings, originally concentrating on Flemish and Dutch masters. The gallery was open in Berlin from 1925-1939, and in New York from 1936 into the 1990s. Hanns Schaeffer was born in Germany, and received his Ph.D. from the University of Breslau in 1921. He was married to the former Kate Born [d. 2001] who was his partner in the gallery and continued its operation after his death.
