John Sowerby, Esq. bought the Putteridge Bury manor in Bedfordshire, England, in 1788. Sowerby was involved in the jewellery and diamond trade on Hatton Garden in London. The country house was destroyed after a fire in 1808 but was later rebuilt in 1812. The Estates of Lilley, Putteridge and Horwellbury passed to George Sowerby (d. 1888).  Sowerby Heirlooms is spelled differently from source to source, including Sawerli, Sawerly or Socoerly Heirlooms and Pullerige Bury.  Initial research could not identify which member of the Sowerby Family, comprised of naturalists, botanists and illustrators spanning multiple generations.     Links:   ·        [about:blank https://www.putteridgebury.co.uk/about/history] ·        [about:blank https://www.beds.ac.uk/putteridgebury] ·        [about:blank https://arcade.nyarc.org/search~S6?/XAdolphe+Schloss+&searchscope=6&SORT=D/XAdolphe+Schloss+&searchscope=6&SORT=D&SUBKEY=Adolphe+Schloss+/51%2C155%2C155%2CB/frameset&FF=XAdolphe+Schloss+&searchscope=6&SORT=D&65%2C65%2C]   Catalogue of Pictures by Old Masters: the Sowerby Heirlooms from Putteridge Bury, Herts.
