Darquier de Pellepoix informed Bruno Lohse that he had appointed an “administrateur provisoire” for the Schloss collection. He stressed the importance of transferring the collection to Paris so that it could be appraised there. Darquier asked for reassurances that the Germans would not intervene and allow the collection to return to Laguenne after its inspection in Paris. Variant: Lohse gave his consent to Darquier’s conditions for the transfer of the Schloss collection, a decision judged to have been issued hastily and outside normal German channels, perhaps to free those responsible from any accountability and to be able to disavow acts leading to seizure and transfer of the collection.
