In a report to Abel Bonnard, Jean-François Lefranc indicated that, thanks to Bruno Lohse, he was able to locate the truck driver who, in August 1939, had transported the Schloss collection from Paris to Corrèze. The search of the Château de Chambon, “carried out at my request”, led to the discovery in the basement of a strong room containing 18 crates filled with paintings, as well as a sizeable quantity of assets and valuables belonging to Jews. A subsequent search at the Veyres-Perier storage facility in Tulle uncovered five other crates filled with paintings.
