Julius Böhler

The Munich-based art dealer Julius Böhler started his business in 1880. Together with his sons and partner Fritz Steinmeyer he opened branches in Lucerne, Switzerland and New York, U.S.A. With his connections to museums and private collectors, Böhler maintained a high profile throughout World War II. From 1936 to 1938, Böhler also held auctions in cooperation with art dealer Adolf Weinmüller. Today, the Böhler art gallery is located in Starnberg. Julius Böhler owned Isaak Koedijk’s work, Chirurgien (The Surgeon), (Schloss German no. L25/ French no. 132), before it became part of the Schloss Collection.
