Mrs Weil asked J. Jaujard to send her the paintings that the Louvre had acquired. He sent her a list of the works with their estimated value. Jaujard explained that “the Germans were very keen to acquire several of the works which we had chosen; they pressured us to withdraw but we refused and exercise the law of pre-emption.” Jaujard was still keen to acquire them in agreement with Mrs Weil. Mr. René Huyghe, who just returned to Paris was available to discuss the matter with her. [Correspondence from the Directeur des Musées Nationaux et de l’École du Louvre (J. Jaujard) to Madame P.E. Weil]
