John Waterloo Wilson (1815-1883) Son of Thomas Wilson (1788-1867) , an important British textile manufacturer and collector, John Waterloo Wilson was born in England and grew up in Brussels. After studying at the Manchester Mechanics’ Institute he moved to Haarlem where he worked at his father’s factory for printing cotton. John Waterloo Wilson was an avid art collector and is mentioned is a few of the Schloss collection paintings, amongst them the painting “le joyeux buveur” by Adrien Brouwer (Schloss German no. 31/ French no. 43bis).
