Iwan Stchoukine

A scion of the famous wealthy Moscow-based textile merchant family. His father was Ivan Vassilievitch Chtchoukine [Shchukin]  (1818-1890). His brother was Sergei Ivanovich Shchukin, businessman and collector of Impressionist and Postimpressionist art. Iwan took his own life by consuming poison at the age of 38 on the eve of the Russian New Year.  

His collection was dispersed in two posthumous sales. Portrait présumé de la fille de l’artiste by Jacob Jordaens (German Schloss / French Schloss 127) was owned by Stchoukine before was acquired by Adolphe Schloss in 1907.
