The inventory attached to Lucie Schloss’ will from 1938 contains more paintings than were transferred to Laguenne. Lucie Schloss gave specific paintings to Raymond and Lucien Schloss. It’s unclear what they did with the ones that were not transferred to Laguenne. Did they leave them in the apartment? If so, they might have been stolen. With respect to the postwar years, the 1938 inventory attached to Lucie’s will was annotated in 1974 by French officials and heirs to the Schloss family. The updates allow us to clarify which paintings were recovered, which ones were sold, which ones did not sell in 1949, 1951, and 1954, and which ones were still missing as of 1974.
