Hendrik Fagel III was a clerk of the States General. During the Batavian French era he went to exile in London and naturalized an Englishman in 1802.

Hendrik is mentioned in the provenance of L’Ancien Palais des Ducs de Bourgogne à Bruxelles by Jan van der Heyden (Schloss German no. L21/ French no. 111). The painting was sold at The Griffiers Fagel sale on 22-23 May 1801 in London.
