Frederik Muller was an Amsterdam art auctioneer, art dealer and publisher. In 1875, he founded Frederik Muller & Co., an art auction house and antique shop on the Nieuwe Doelenstraat 16-18 in Amsterdam. F. Adema van Scheltema was his business partner. Although the antiquarian part of the firm was closed in 1919, the art auction house remained active until the 1960’s. After Muller’s death the firm developed into an international auction house specialising in works of art. It closed in 1963. Muller’s collection of prints relating to the history of the Netherlands up to 1881, now in the Rijksprentenkabinett, were published in four volumes between 1863 and 1882, and remain the standard work on the subject.
