Execution of Musso search warrant at the Banque Jordaan
At 2pm, four people arrived at the Banque Jordaan storage facility at the Château de Chambon in Laguenne (Corrèze), 2 km from Tulle. They were: Jean-François Lefranc, administrateur provisoire des biens Schloss; Edmond Favier, commissaire au CGQJ ; a secretary and Agent [Inspector] Cloup, Renseignements Généraux, Préfecture de la Corrèze. They presented a search warrant signed by Fernand Musso, the Préfet de la Corrèze. These gentlemen spoke with Mr. Tixier, proxy (fondé de pouvoir) at the Banque Jordaan. He had been there since 1939 to manage the transfer and safeguarding of assets at the bank. They told Mr. Tixier that they were looking for crates containing paintings from the Schloss collection. They peppered him with questions about the nature of the crates on deposit at the bank and their contents. Tixier denied knowing anyone by the name of “Schloss.”. No crates at the bank had been recorded as belonging to Schloss. They placed seals on all the crates that they viewed as well as thirteen other crate and packages. They entrusted the care of the seals to Mr. Henri Volclair, chef de la conservation at the Banque Jordaan. Meanwhile, Mr. Tixier called Mr. Renaud, one of the bank directors.
