Edward Adolphus Seymour was born on 24 February 1775 at Monkton Farleigh in Wiltshire, England. He later changed his name to Edward Adolphus St. Maur. Seymour was a mathematician and served briefly as President of the Astronomical Society of London in 1820. He spent much of his life at Somerset House, his townhouse on Park Lane in London. In 1829, he moved to Stover House after he acquired it from James Templer.  His first wife, Lady Charlotte Hamilton, daughter of the 9th Duke of Hamilton, brought with her a valuable art collection including works by Rubens.  Seymour died on 15 August 1855.   The Duke of Somerset, Stower Collection is mentioned in the sale information available for Meindert Hobbema’s “Paysage boisé“, as recorded in the Banque Dreyfus Inventory, tableau. no. 113: “Vente du duc de Somerset (Stower coll.) 28 Juin 1890. No. 33; adjugé à la maison Agnew pour la somme de 2.600 livres”. The Agnew’s stock book for the year 1890 was not available to consult online at the time of research.                                                              Links:   ·        https://www.geni.com/people/Edward-Adolphus-St-Maur-11th-Duke-of-Somerset/6000000010051782981#/tab/timeline ·        https://www.nationalgallery.org.uk/research/research-centre/archive/record/NGA27 ·        https://www.npg.org.uk/collections/search/person/mp04184/edward-adolphus-seymour-11th-duke-of-somerset?role=sit ·        https://www.devon.gov.uk/stovercountrypark/history ·        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_St_Maur,_11th_Duke_of_Somerset
