A French police investigation report filed by René Contant alleged that Inspector Liénard found out, as early as Fall of 1940, that the Schloss collection was kept at Laguenne and that Mr. Nériec, a truck driver, had told Liénard and several other police inspectors that he had dropped off the crates containing the Schloss paintings at a castle near Laguenne.
