The small, circular painting Sainte dans un paysage (Landscape with a Saint) by Lucas Signorelli (17 cm diameter) was part of the collection of Adolphe Schloss. Before it entered the Schloss Collection it was owned by textile merchant and art collector Eduard Simon, who had been very successful in the textile industry and built up a prominent assemblage of works under the guidance of Wilhelm von Bode. Simon committed suicide in 1929; his collection was auctioned off with Hugo Helbing in Berlin on 10 October 1929 with an introduction to the catalogue by M. J. Friedländer.   Links: Entry of the artwork at the ERR database: https://www.errproject.org/jeudepaume/card_view.php?CardId=52639 Entry of the artwork in the database of the French Foreign Ministery: https://www.diplomatie.gouv.fr/sites/archives_diplo/schloss/tableauxS/tableaux148.html?provenance=collection Entry on Eduard Simon at wikipedia: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eduard_Georg_Simon Auction catalogue “Die Sammlung Dr. Eduard Simon, Berlin.
