The removal of the collection from the Château de Chambon had taken place without the knowledge of the local and regional authorities, who had only been informed by a notice from Vichy asking the Prefect to prevent the departure of the truck carrying the confiscated Schloss collection. The Prefect had to alert the gendarmerie whose officers intercepted the vehicle as it left Tulle. Mr. Huyghe and Mr. Bazin were informed that the contents of the truck were eventually deposited at the Banque de France in Limoges. The prefect of Limoges received instructions from the Chief of Government to oppose any subsequent transfer of the Schloss collection.  Michel Martin informed Jacques Jaujard of René Huyghe’s exchange with the préfet de la Haute-Vienne.
