SS Ustuf. Hans Leimer, in his capacity as a representative of the SS and representative of the 4-year Plan on black market issues, contacted Bruno Lohse, whom he described as “the SS representative for art purchases” regarding an impending operation involving “a collection of paintings from a Jewish collection” in the unoccupied zone which was worth presumably 30-50 million francs. Leimer’s source was Henri Rigeaux, of 93, rue Lauriston, one of the most effective V-Mann working for the ERR.
