The director of the Banque de France in Limoges reminded the Préfet of Haute-Vienne in Limoges that he had received 23 crates from Lefranc on April 24 and agreed to house them in his facility. He felt it his duty to oppose the removal of the crates until told to do so by a higher authority, aware that this stance might delay the transfer of the crates to Paris on August 10. That same day, Laval’s secretary called Limoges to indicate that Lefranc would show up on the 10th with an official order from Bonnard empowering him to take custody of the Schloss collection. Guéraud, secretary general of Laval, confirmed the order by telephone to the Préfet de la Haute-Vienne at 6:20pm.
