At least three individuals including the head of the CGQJ office in Marseille and another policeman apprehended Henry Schloss and his wife, Louise Boulat, on suspicion of “Gaullist activities”. They were waiting at the “gare des omnibus” for a connection to take them to a funeral at Antibes. Jean-François Lefranc, Edmond Favier and Georges Perrier forced them into a car and drove to the Schloss villa on the “chemin des Moulins” at Saint-Jean-Cap Ferrat. Armed with a search warrant, CGQJ Inspector Georges Perrier led the search throughout the house looking for paintings. Lefranc oversaw the entire operation “on behalf of Pierre Laval.” Henry Schloss refused to disclose the location of the collection as well as Lucien’s whereabouts. When a mailman appeared at the house with a telegram for Henry Schloss, Lefranc intercepted it and realized that Lucien Schloss had sent it. The telegram revealed Lucien’s address. Henry’s wife was placed under guard at the villa, while Henry was transferred to Marseille.
