Alfred von Strasser- Sánczi was born in Lettowitz, Moravia to a Jewish family. He became an art collector in Vienna. He married Clarisse von Wertheimstein; they had two sons and a daughter. His wife’s sister, Ruzsika Edle von Wertheimstein, married Nathaniel Charles Rothschild (1877-1923), a member of the British Rothschild family.   In 1894 Adolphe Schloss sold Rembrandt’s Un ange sous les traits de Titus (Schloss 270) to Strasser for 12,500 francs. Schloss bought the painting back from Strasser in 1900 for 20,000 francs. The painting stayed with Adolphe Schloss until his death in 1910 and ended up with Jean-François Lefranc after the Schloss Collection’s confiscation in April 1943.
