Alexander Dennistoun

Alexander Dennistoun worked in the family trading company, J. & A. Dennistoun, a prosperous tobacco and cotton trading company founded by his father James Dennistoun of Golfhill, Glasgow, with branches in Liverpool, new Orleans, and Havre. He also served as member of Parliament for Dunbartonshire (1834-1837). Alexander Dennistoun is mentioned in the provenance of the painting Paysage d’hiver by Jacob van Ruysdael (Schloss German no. 190/ French no. 225).
