On behalf of the State, the administration of the Musées Nationaux acquired 49 paintings from the CGQJ. The advisory committee and the Conseil Technique des musées nationaux (technical council of the national museums administration) on September 20, 1943 and October 6, 1943, unanimously welcomed the expansion of the Dutch gallery at the Louvre. Because the acquisition could not be financed without a loan offered as a grant to the RMN [National Museum Administration] Abel Bonnard requested Cathala’s agreement for the additional credit in the amount of 18,975,000 francs under section 52 of the Fine Arts budget for 1944. Upon signature of the acquisition order the CGQJ will be informed of the final decision. A. Bonnard stressed the urgency of this matter.
