Jean-Baptiste Guillaume de Gevigney was a clergyman, theologian, librarian, collector of Italian, French, Dutch and Flemish paintings and an art dealer. In Paris he worked as a genealogist in the service of the Count of Provence (1773-1777), and then as keeper of titles and genealogies in the King's Library (1779-1784).
