As recounted by Rose Valland in the “Front de l’Art,” Abel Bonnard, Vichy’s minister of education, approved on 6 August 1941 negotiations to safeguard the rights the Louvre might wish to exercise on art works in Jewish-owned collections subject to seizure. This note is consistent with a subsequent letter dated 10 August 1943.
