His Excellency and former State Minister Baron [Freiherr] Richard von Friesen was born at Schloß Thürmsdorf in Saxony, and died in Dresden. The oldest son of the art collector and estate owner Adolf Freiherr von Friesen, he studied law and became minister of finance for the state of Saxony. Friesen was member of the commission for the Royal art academies of Dresden and Leipzig. In 1885, the year after he died unmarried and childless, his art collection was auctioned off by Heberle in Cologne. An artwork by Geritt Lundens, Der Chirurg (The Surgeon), was offered as lot nr. 90; it was later owned by Adolphe Schloss.   Links: Entry on Richard von Friesen at the Stadtwiki of Dresden: https://www.stadtwikidd.de/wiki/Richard_Freiherr_von_Friesen Catalog der Gemälde-Gallerie aus dem Nachlasse Sr. Excellenz des Staatsministers a.
