Dutch art collector, merchant and banker in Amsterdam in the family business Firma Raymond and Theodoor de Smeth and Co. He was also a commissioner (1775) and alderman (1781) in Amsterdam. He was director of the Moscovian Trade in 1782 and also provost archidiacon of the Dom chapter in Utrecht.
