Nicolas François Jacques Boileau was born in Etampes (Éssonne) in 1720. After studying at the Académie de Saint-Luc (Paris), he became a member in 1748 and served as the institution’s director since 1759. Boileau held an art dealership on the Quai de la Mégisserie. He travelled once or maybe more times to the Northern Netherlands to buy art for clients like the Duc de Choiseul.
