Gerlach informed Schleier that he has no problem giving his assurance to Darquier de Pellepoix regarding the safe return of the Schloss, Bonn and Hauser collections. This stance may have been prompted by an allegation put forth by Lohse whereby “40 of the most precious paintings of the Schloss collection are in Portugal.”
