André Giroux was a French painter and a recipient of the Prix de Rome for historical landscape painting in 1825. His collection that included artworks by Backhuysen, de Bray, van Goyen and more was sold at Hotel Drouot in 8 February 1904. Amongst the paintings sold was_ Plage à marée basse _by Jacob Esselens that later entered into the Adolphe Schloss collection.
