Establishment of Commissariat Général aux Questions Juives (CGQJ)
On 29 March 1941, the Commissariat Général aux Questions Juives (CGQJ) was established and housed in a building once owned by the Louis-Dreyfus banking family at 1, place des Petits-Pères. Its first director or “commissaire-général” was Xavier Vallat. He was succeeded in May 1942 by Louis Darquier de Pellepoix.
