Operation Havest Festival (Aktion Erntedankfest)
SS and police units murdered Jewish laborers in the Lublin district, which included the concentration camp Majdanek and a handful of forced labor camps. This was in retaliation for the prisoner uprisings at the Treblinka and Sobibor killing centers and in the Warsaw, Bialystok, and Vilna ghettos. Approximately 42,000 Jews were killed during “Operation Harvest Festival,” the largest recorded massacre perpetrated in a single day during the Holocaust.
