Johan van der Marck was mayor and chief officer in Leiden, director of the West India Company in Amsterdam. His art collection was auctioned in 1773 in Amsterdam.

He is mentioned in the provenance of the painting Portrait of a woman (Maria de Grebber) by Gabriel Metsu. The picture was sold at his sale in 1773.
