William Fuller Maitland, the Elder, heir of the wealthy banker Ebenezer Fuller Maitland, was an art collector who amassed a major and well-known collection of Old Masters. The National Gallery purchased paintings from the Fuller Maitland Collection in 1878. The paintings Paysage de Hollande by Jan Vermeer, the elder (Schloss German no. 225 / French no. 269) and La Vierge et l’enfant by Adriaen Isenbrandt (Schloss German no. L22 / French no. 122) were previously part of the Fuller Maitland Collection.
