Hans Posse diary entry about Schloss collection

Hans Posse’s first diary entry referring to the Schloss collection read as follows: “Mr. Schloss Galerie u. Wohnung 38. Av. Henri Martin Tel. Passy 50 – 04 Bureau: 4 rue Martel Tel. Taitbout 75 – 60 Gefordert 40 Mill. fr. (im unbesetzten Gebiet).” In a handwritten notation, Posse alleged that Adolphe Schloss’ heirs offered to sell their father’s collection for 40 million francs. The neighborhood of Passy is in the 16th arrondissement. 4 rue Martel was the address of the Schloss export brokerage, “Adolphe Schloss Fils & Cie., commissionnaires exportateurs”.
