The painter Franz Hermesdorff was born in Trier and died in Kerkrade. He studied architecture at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts in 1882. His art collection was auctioned off by Hugo Helbing in Munich on 14 December 1904; other parts of his estate were sold on 4-5 March 1907 by Lempertz in Cologne.
