Franz Kälberer was a German chemigrapher, who lived at 7 Appianstr. Munich. He was a patient at a hospital in Bad Tölz where he met two French POWs, including Jean Gautron. In late May 1945, the French POWs’s friends visited them at the hospital, met Kälberer and asked if he would safeguard some paintings for them.
