Silvio Valenti Gonzaga was an Italian nobleman and Catholic cardinal and owned a large collection of more than 800 Italian and Northern European paintings. His collection was sold in Amsterdam in 18 May 1763. He is mentioned in the provenance of the painting _Portrait du graveur Paul Pontius_ by Anthony van Dyck (Schloss German no. 56/ French no. 77). The painting is currently in the Israel Museum
