Hendrik Fagel III was a clerk of the States General. During the Batavian French era he went to exile in London and naturalized an Englishman in 1802. Hendrik is mentioned in the provenance of _L'Ancien Palais des Ducs de Bourgogne à Bruxelles_ by Jan van der Heyden (Schloss German no. L21/ French no. 111). The painting was sold at The Griffiers Fagel sale on 22-23 May 1801 in London.
