Nathan Wildenstein founded the Paris-based Wildenstein & Co. during the third quarter of the 19th century. Wildenstein, a tailor by training, became enamored with art and art history and after successfully selling his first painting, used the proceeds to launch his business. In 1905, he set up a gallery in Rue de la Boëtie in Paris.
