According to Karl Haberstock, in the winter of 1940-1941, “a fantastic woman with a German-Jewish name” approached him at the Hotel Négresco in Nice, to discuss how she could sell him part or all of the Schloss collection. He rejected her proposal, sight unseen. She may be the same person who may have offered 35,000 pounds sterling to the Schloss heirs for one of their Hals paintings.
