Sébastien Érard, was a French instrument maker of German origin born in Strasbourg. He is mentioned in the provenance of the painting _L'intéressant message _by Gerard Ter Borch (Schloss German no. 215/ French no. 256). He possibly purchased the painting at the sale of Robert de Saint-Victor on 26 November 1822 - 7 January 1823 in Paris.
