Richard Foster was a UK collector of Dutch and Flemish Old Masters, who resided in Clewer Manor, Berkshire. His collection sold at his sale, Christie, Manson & Woods, London, on 3 June 1876. He is mentioned in the provenance of the painting _L’intéressant message _by Gerard ter Borch (Schloss German no. 215/ French no. 256).
