<p><b>New page</b></p><div>In March 1941, the Vichy government created a central agency, the General Commissariat for Jewish Affairs (Commissariat Général aux Questions Juives), to coordinate anti-Jewish legislation and policy. Xavier Vallat served as Commissioner-General, followed by Louis Darquier de Pellepoix in May 1942. The CGQJ was was responsible for proposing all legislative measures concerning Jews to the Vichy government, including the confiscation of Jewish property in France.
